COVID-19: Extension to freight movements

Late last week, we received details released by the Ministry of Transport allowing an extension to the freight movements that are permitted under COVID-19 Alert Level 4 restrictions.

To support the movement of essential freight, non-essential freight that is already in the transport system can now be distributed and received, including de-vanning and delivery to businesses and customers. All freight can also enter and leave the country. The intention of the refinement is to clear the system so essential freight can move as freely as possible.

However, this does not change the restrictions on non-essential businesses, who remain unable to trade under Alert Level 4, except to receive goods.

Both Nexus Logistics and Conlinxx Ltd MPI-approved facilities remain open to serve customers requiring assistance, including wharf cartage, container unpack, cross dock and storage. Our Inland Port facilities are fully operational as we have been right throughout COVID-19. We are here to help and support you in any way you may need.

The Government is aware that movement of non-essential freight will require some additional people movement during Alert Level 4. The Ministry has said that any workers moving between work and home to de-van goods, will need a letter or other form of authorisation from their employer to identify they are required for the purposes of this work.

The Government have committed today (Monday 20th April) at 4pm to announce when New Zealand will move to Alert Level 3.

We are looking forward as I’m sure you are to some normality within New Zealand but please be reminded that under Alert 3, it is still vital that social distancing is maintained to keep our all of our employees safe.

For any enquiries regarding your freight movements, please contact our customer service team on customer.service@nexuslogistics.nz
